Overheard on the way back from the coroner

Heard this story from my brother on the way back from picking up my father’s things from the coroner (wallet, half-glasses, nail clipper, black comb, Swiss army knife, phone):

During my brother’s last stint in prison, he came to a friend’s defense and was attacked by three guys, one with a metal cup who kept punching him in the neck and the back of his head. After 7 months of numbness and pain in his arms and legs, he finally was able to get it checked out by the medical staff. He had emergency surgery for fractured and displaced neck vertebrae. He drags one of his legs a bit as a result of the damage to his spinal cord, and has a long scar on his neck from the surgery.

Welcome to the most intense week of my entire life.
