Million Solar Roofs initiative - Go Cali!
A powerful idea - Los Angeles Times talks about how solar power in California might finally get a boost towards the mainstream. New homes in CA would be offered with a solar panel option. CA would make the solar option reasonably priced by giving substantial rebates.
The goal is to create enough of a volume for solar technology that the prices can come down. With a growing market, advancements in solar technology would become financially rewarding as well. Once the prices start to come down, then the rebates will be phased out.
I say, about damn time! Spain and Germany are already doing something similar, and Italy is looking into it as well. Unfortunately, this win-win fantastic idea may stall due to political BS. Republicans have now turned against the idea, due to wage issues for the workers who install the solar panels. Ugh. Schwartzenegger needs to stand firm and really stay behind this idea, which I think could be an incredible legacy for him. Come on California, let's get back in the lead and show the rest of this country how to do things the right way!
